PASSENGERS' TERMINAL PAPEETE

Location: Papeete, French - Polynesia
Client: Port of Papeete

Millions of people dream of visiting French Polynesia. For those who chose to come by boat, the Place Vai'ete will be the first place of contact with their dream that becomes reality. The project is of great importance for Papeete and French Polynesia. For the thousands of visitors that moor, the cruise terminal and the Place Vai'ete are the representational spaces from which local and international cruises will depart and end, the first and last image of their journey. This term represents an enormous source of enrichment for the city of Papeete and adds a new public function. The project must deal with this in a creative way, taking into account the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS), the international code for the safety of ships and port facilities, and the importance of the spatial continuity between city-terminal-ships and the waterfront. Since the foundation of Papeete, the current Place Vai'ete has always been the privileged place where visitors stayed. With time, it became the place for all festivities. This status, however, was lost little by little, for the benefit of other places. With this project we have the ambition to not only restore the square in value, but above all to revitalize the city of Papeete and to confirm to visitors that their dream has become reality.
