The new Espace Bruno Corbé, a training center for Doctors Without Borders, combines two main needs. On one hand, it requires comfortable indoor spaces such as classrooms, exhibition areas, and a cafeteria. On the other, it includes a large “field-like environment”: an open outdoor area where real mission scenarios can be simulated, materials tested, and activities presented to visitors and sponsors. Architectuurplatform developed the program and selected a semi-industrial site in Ganshoren. An existing industrial hall is reused, with most of its roof preserved for its functional potential. Part of the rear is demolished to create the outdoor space. Under the roof, new wooden volumes are inserted, forming two large multifunctional areas that organize the hall. The green color and rhythm of the existing steel partitions are reflected in the new design. The building is stepped at the back, opening toward the adjacent natural landscape. This layout strengthens the connection between indoor, outdoor, and covered spaces, enhancing interaction and providing flexibility for various activities and workshops.
